Samantha Stein
Soprano

Biography

Samantha Stein is heralded as a soprano with a "rounded, commanding top" (Chicago.broadwayworld). She has starred in roles such as Yum-Yum with the Gilbert and Sullivan Opera Company of Chicago in their production of The Mikado, where the Hyde Park Herald quoted her as “serv(ing) up Yum-Yum in a yummy style. The house was quiet, perfectly attentive to her every note.”, and as Musetta in La Boheme with the Verismo Opera Club of Chicago.

The Boston native loves singing in both operatic productions and on the concert stage. Her soloist work includes Handel’s Messiah, Vivaldi’s Gloria, and Beethoven’s Choral Fantasie. She enjoys the challenges presented by “new” music and has performed in all three of Eric Malmquist’s “S.O.N.G.” (Singers on New Ground) series. Her skill as a contemporary performer was showcased last October in the world Premier of Kyong-Me Choi’s Guggenheim-funded multi-media theatrical presentation of her new compositional work, The Eternal Tao.

Samantha’s favorite roles performed include Susanna in Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro and Ernestine in Offenbach’s R.S.V.P. Susanna is becoming a signature role; at the Bay View Music Festival her interpretation was praised as “a delicate blend of mischievous scheming, loving sincerity and a magnificent voice” (Petoskey News-Review).

Samantha is a committed arts educator; she recently finished touring as Mabel in the 2010-2011 production of Pirates of Penzance with Opera for the Young, Wisconsin’s acclaimed outreach young artist program, and she maintains acting teaching studios in Cincinnati, Loveland, and Florence, KY. She holds degrees from SUNY Purchase Conservatory of Music and Chicago College of Performing Arts at Roosevelt University.

Her upcoming roles include Mme. Goldentrill in Mozart’s Impresario and Franca in The Light in the Piazza.
